Today, at the International Society for Technology in Education’s (ISTE) annual conference, the education and technology company Pearson announced Online Learning Exchange ™ (OLE), a new reliable web-based destination where K-12 teachers can create their own customized lessons and personalize classroom instruction to improve their students’ learning.

OLE, which supports any curriculum, brings together tools for teachers to aggregate their own content, quality third-party resources, and numerous digital assets from Pearson’s research-based instructional materials — all tagged by subject, grade, and educational standard.

Learning resources in the areas of biology, chemistry and physics will be ready on OLE for the back-to-school rush. This wide range of science content, assessments, and activities will include lesson plans, presentation templates, videos, and interactive learning resources, which can be used in conjunction with all science programs.

The one-stop-shop platform also offers fully searchable third-party content including editorial photographs and animations from Getty Images, educational resources and standards-aligned science courses from NASA, videos and podcasts from the world-traveling Untamed Science team, and research-based interactive simulations of physical science concepts from the University of Colorado Boulder’s PhET science site.

“Hard-working, dedicated teachers who have spent hundreds of hours on YouTube or Google hunting for reliable materials to complement their lessons will search no more,” said Pearson’s senior vice president, Lynda Cloud. “OLE will provide access to quality content and approved educator-created materials in one easy-to-find place, saving our teachers precious time and energy.” She added, “OLE is especially relevant during these tight budgetary times. Schools and districts that can’t afford new, complete instructional programs can capitalize on OLE’s low-cost offerings to fully realize the power of technology in their classrooms and enhance student learning.”

Cloud said that in OLE, teachers can take advantage of a media toolkit to manipulate content and produce derivative materials to add to their personalized library of easily accessible high-quality customized lessons.

In addition, teachers can submit their original educational assets to be published for the entire OLE community to utilize. All approved teacher-created content will be republished with credit to the originators, and then integrated in OLE.
