Victim can barely eat
A Hamilton man viciously attacked by a group of mainly teen girls who stripped him and tied him up with his own clothes was beaten so badly he has trouble eating.
A group of five people appeared in court yesterday following the brutal alcohol fuelled attack on Saturday.
The group of four females, aged 13, 14, 17 and 21, and a 17-year-old boy, allegedly assaulted the man for more than an hour early on Saturday morning at a small social function.
Detective Sergeant Ricky Thompson said , said the victim who is in his 30s, was allegedly beaten after the group took exception to something he said.
"During this time he was repeatedly beaten, had his clothing removed, some of which was placed in his mouth as a gag. He was abused and degraded including having parts of his hair cut before he managed to make his escape."
A friend of the victim, who was at his Fairfield home when the Waikato Times visited but did not wish to be named, said he was still getting medical attention.
"He has had to go back to the doctors, he's having trouble eating. There are bruises all over his head, it looks pretty bad."
The incident occurred at a Hamilton apartment and bystanders watched as the five young people allegedly kept the man hostage, gagging him with his own clothing, police said.
They then cut his hair and savagely beat him before he escaped to called police at about 2am.
"It was a prolonged, serious and very humiliating attack," Mr Thompson said.
He said the victim and the alleged offenders knew each other through friends.
The five have been charged of grievous bodily harm, assault with a weapon (scissors), threatening to kill and theft.
