Why (Or Why Not) Rick Perry?

I  don’t know what to think about Rick Perry running for President.  I sure don’t have anything against him running, but several points as to Perry’s political strengths,

1.  Perry gets a lot of credit because Texas under his governorship has had population increase and a (relatively) low unemployment while keeping taxes and spending low.  What (if anything) does it tell us that Minnesota had a lower unemployment rate than Texas when Tim Pawlenty finished up as governor?

2.  Perry won three terms as governor and that is impressive.  Then again, the Democrats haven’t been able to win a race for Texas governor or Senator from Texas since 1990.  During that time, the sorry Massachusetts Republican Party has won three governor races and one Senate race.  Isn’t Pawlenty’s reelection in Democratic-leaning Minnesota in the horrible (for Republicans) year of 2006 more politically impressive than any Perry election result?

3.  Perry has suggested secession if he doesn’t get his own way on policy, and suggested that Texas opt-out of Medicaid.   Now, no one has to worry that Perry is going to lead a violent attempt to dismember our country.  When Perry made the secession comment, he was trying to out “white Southern populist” Kay Bailey Hutchison in the race for the Republican  gubernatorial nomination.  The nursing home residents of Texas also don’t have to worry that Perry will pull out of Medicaid (and the state legislature of Texas doesn’t have to worry about laying new taxes to substitute for the resulting losses of federal funds.)  All the indications are that Perry was just shooting his mouth off.  How will this style play on the big stage?

Google “Rick Perry Adultery” and google “Why Anita Perry Never Smiles”

I am a 3 time delegate to the Texas state Republican convention (2006, 2008, 2010). I am also a patron of Austin’s strip clubs. My excellent and credible sources (plural) in Austin’s strip clubs tell me that Adulterer Rick Perry, a la Bill Clinton, has an enabling entourage that gets him “young hotties” to have sex with both here in Austin and especially when he is on the road. As it was described to me, Rick Perry acts like he is in a porno video when he is on the road, having orgies with his entourage.

Christian “family values” hypocrite and adulterer Rick Perry is sitting on a keg of slut-fueled nitroglycerine that if it exploded it would make Anthony Weiner look like a mere pimple popping. That is why adulterer Rick is being such a tease about running for president. Capiche?

In fact, Texas law does not prohibit all spanking.  No state bans all spanking.  Judge Longoria was simply making it up as he went along – something one might have thought Gonzales’ lawyer would have pointed out.  But then, if she could afford a lawyer who would point that out, she’d almost certainly never have been standing in that courtroom at all.  Middle-class parents don’t get arrested for spanking their children on the rear with an open hand.  That’s part of the special justice system we reserve for poor people. Opponents of spanking often say it “sends the wrong message” to children.  Well, here’s the message a young child is likely to get from being taken from her or his mother in a case like this: “I must have done something wrong.  That’s why I’m being punished by having my mom taken away from me.”  Great message. That doesn’t mean no child ever should be removed from the home.  But it does mean the threshold should be a lot higher than it apparently was in this case.  And it should be a lot higher than it is for the thousands of poor families who lose their children when family poverty is confused with neglect, as described in this excellent New York Times essay , which I’ve highlighted before on this Blog.  The essay raises the same issue as this case: turning personal child-rearing preferences into law and then imposing that law on poor people.
