Juneau Rainbow Girls set to host state convention

Juneau is host to the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls Alaska Chapter’s 49th annual convention this year, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Travelodge. The event will last until Thursday.

Girls from Anchorage and Fairbanks will join Juneau Rainbow Girls in various team building and leadership programs. In addition, they will be working at the Gastineau Humane Society as the closing activity to their year-long service project of helping animal shelters in Alaska.

Great Escape - wasting my time

The whole thing started because deb, who no longer lives here, and i were sending in strays to juneau so they could have a home instead of being dropped off at the dump, shot or taken to the end of the road and deserted. well anyway i had a new litter of puppies to send to my contact in juneau and she was told she couldn't take them to the humane society there. fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on which side of the sotry you are on, she works for the only newspaper in juneau. hence the story. i did have a call from a lady in skagway who was quite helpful and gave me some grant information to follow through with; however, i have pissed off just about half the town for talking to the paper and it's not really my place seeing as i'm not a public official to get this off the ground. i think instead of pioneering it on my own, it will be one of the first class projects the students will do. one person can change nothing, but get enough on board and magic happens.
