Police seize drugs from festival-goers
Stern was a passenger in the vehicle. The driver and another passenger were released at the scene. The three also were headed for the Electric Forest Festival.Earlier in the week, deputies confiscated 11 pounds of candy bars containing hash during another traffic stop in the same location in Casco Township. Those suspects were also on their way to the Rothbury festival.

The suspects said they bought the marijuana for about $2400 and were on their way to the Electric Forest Music Festival in Rothbury. Others in the motor home were cited for possessing smaller amounts of the drug, and were released.

By John Sinkevics | The Grand Rapids Press – ROTHBURY – Nothing was going to keep Tony Rockweit, 24, of Wisconsin, from returning to Rothbury this year to see his favorite band: The String Cheese Incident.
Even if the four-day Electric Forest festival bills itself as a different – and much smaller – event, Rockweit insisted the unique atmosphere of this Double JJ Ranch site north of Muskegon made it worth the 360-mile trip from Fond du Lac, Wis., with his buddy, Noah Schmitz, 24.
“It’s got green grass everywhere. It’s still a good vibe,” said Rockweit, a student at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point who attended both Rothbury festivals in 2008 and 2009.
“It’s big enough to hold everybody anyway. This festival is awesome. I’m not worried about the size; I’m more worried about the vibe. I love music and I want String Cheese. They’re awesome.”

Two years after nearly 34,000 people descended on the second edition of the much-hyped Rothbury music festival – boasting performances by iconic rock acts Bob Dylan, The Dead, Willie Nelson and The Black Crowes – a more subdued and compact affair returned Thursday to these fields in this tiny western Michigan hamlet.
On a gray opening afternoon dotted with sprinkles of rain, Electric Forest was still drawing thousands of jam-band fans and self-described hippies from across the country, though not nearly as many music lovers as those who flocked to the site off U.S. 31 in 2009.
Organizers wouldn’t disclose ticket sales, but said they expect about 15,000 people for the weekend – less than half of Rothbury’s 2009 turnout, with bands playing fewer stages on a slightly reconfigured site.
Even the police presence has been slashed this year, according to the Michigan State Police.
