En Mugello sólo se habla español

Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) se impuso en el Gran Premio de Italia en MotoGP después de dos meses sin ganar una carrera. Con este triunfo el español redujo en nueve puntos -se sitúa a 19- su desventaja con el australiano Casey Stoner (Honda) en su lucha por el título. Fue la guinda a un fin de semana perfecto para los españoles, ya que antes Nico Terol (Aprilia) y Marc Márquez (Suter) ganaron en 125cc y Moto2, respectivamente. Lorenzo, actual campeón del mundo, pasó en pocas vueltas de arriesgar el tercer puesto ante el italiano Marco Simoncelli (Honda) a realizar un magistral interior a Stoner en una de las zonas más bonitas del trazado de Mugello, la bajada de Casanova Savelli. El piloto mallorquín, además, se vio beneficiado por la segundap posición logrda por otro italiano, Andrea Dovizioso, que arrebató cuatro puntos a su compañero en el equipo oficial Honda en la última vuelta de una intensa carrera. Dovizioso dio buena cuenta de Lorenzo a 16 vueltas de la conclusión y Simoncelli hizo subir la tensión al acercase al español. Pero un error al final de recta hizo que el italiano se volviera a quedar atrás. Ahí se acabó Simoncelli. Todo hacía indicar que Stoner tenía la carrera en sus manos. Mientras, Dani Pedrosa, ahora sí, fue capaz de encontrar su ritmo y llegaba al grupo de Bautista, Barberá, Edwards y Rossi. En la duodécima vuelta, Lorenzo recuperó el segundo puesto al rebasar a Dovizioso, cuando ya tenía a Stoner a más de dos segundos. Sin embargo, el balear mejoraba poco a poco sus tiempos y en el decimoquinto hizo su giro más rápido para situarse a menos de un segundo del australiano. Más tarde, Lorenzo marcó la vuelta rápida en carrera para rematar con un precioso interior a Stoner en la bajada de Casanova Savelli. Tras Terol y Zarco, otros tres españoles se disputaron hasta el final el último lugar en el podio, al que subió Maverick Viñales (Aprilia), quien pudo con Efrén Vázquez (Derbi) y Héctor Faubel (Aprilia) también en los últimos metros después de rodar juntos durante toda la carrera. En su octava carrera en esta categoría tras proclamarse campeón del mundo de 125cc.

Se habla español - Skepchick

Skeptics in Spanish-speaking communities have very different battles to fight. Some live in industrialized areas, while others are in areas where a large percentage of the population still lives below the poverty line. Some live in countries where people don’t get vaccinated for lack of education and/or means, others live in places where people have chosen to stop vaccinating their kids because they trust Powerpoint presentations with corny music, pictures of puppies, and a lot of misinformation,* more than they trust their doctor. Yet, there are many common fights; pseudo-sciences know no borders. Many woo providers see us as a single market, we should fight back together.

Don’t get me wrong, there are great skeptical blogs and podcasts being produced in Spanish, but they are not evenly spread geographically, women are grossly underrepresented, and there are rarely any synergies between skeptical groups in different countries. Are we trying to fix all these problems through our blog? Yes!

So, who are we? At the moment, 8 women: two Chilean, two Mexican, and four Spaniard. As for me, I was born and raised in Mexico City in a secular family with very strong science influences. My parents must have done something right since 3 out of 3 of their kids turned out skeptics. Yet, my personal road to skepticism was not a straight line. I was never much into woo but, for many more years than I care to admit, I just couldn’t be bothered to think critically. Long story short, I’m not a scientist and only came to skepticism when my brother introduced me to the SGU. I was immediately hooked.

This is great! I studied abroad in Mexico and did my final project on a few women’s issues and the problem of being a “fracasada” (literally a “failure” used to describe women who decide not to have children and/or get married) in Guadalajara, and Mexico in general.
